Owner’s engineer in an innovative project for sector coupling with H2, Austria

TIWAG had planned a hydrogen production facility near the Langkampfen run-of-river power plant, with integration across the sectors of electricity, heat, gas, and mobility (Power2X Kufstein). An underground 25-kV line from a substation approximately 1.5 km away from the site was intended to supply additional electrical consumers at the location with the support of a planned rooftop PV system. In addition to electric charging stations, a hydrogen tank and trailer filling facility were envisioned. Additionally, the produced hydrogen could be fed into the Tyrolean natural gas network. Furthermore, storage capacities for hydrogen were planned. The waste heat from the electrolyzer was to be utilized through a heat pump process and fed into the district heating network of Kufstein. Fichtner had been commissioned by TIWAG as the general planner.
