Concept study for a green methanol or ammonia production facility in the Western Cape, South Africa
PNE intended to construct a Power-to-X production facility in the Western Cape region of South Africa. Using wind and solar energy, the project was expected to produce approximately 500,000 tons of environmentally friendly, hydrogen-based e-fuels per year for the domestic market or for export. Fichtner initially conducted a market analysis. Subsequently, a preliminary design was prepared and the plant sizing was optimized before the conceptual design for the various components was developed, in particular for the renewable power generation units, the hydrogen production facility (electrolysis), and the feedstock production plants. A cost estimate for production was prepared, and an indicative implementation schedule was developed.
